Have you met or interviewed them before the booking?

Have they looked after a pet like yours before?

Can you speak to an owner they have sat for, rather than rely on a group chat recommendation?

If something goes wrong

Have you agreed in advance what they will do in a veterinary emergency?

Do they have your vet's details and know which emergency clinic to use?

Is there insurance covering incidents during the booking?

Is there someone to turn to if a problem is not resolved with the sitter?

During the booking

Will you see where walks go, such as a route with photographs?

Have you agreed when updates will arrive during a stay?

Have you written down the feeding routine and any instructions your vet has given?

Does the sitter have your number and a backup contact?

Payment and arrangements

Is the price agreed in writing before the booking?

Will the payment leave a record, whatever method you use?

Is it agreed how keys will be handed over and returned?

Is it agreed what happens if the sitter has to cancel?
